May 24 event provides glimpse at company’s latest plans.
On May 24 from 3-5 pm the Gananoque Brewing Company will launch its Remarkable Light Beer, made with local organic rye and hops from the Gananoque area, at an event at the Socialist Pig restaurant.
“Every year we do an event on May 24 to unveil a new beer and to share our plans for the coming year,” said Bruce Davis, the company president. “Our construction plans have been delayed for the Bell Tower brewery site but we are still very active making and selling beer. It has been a very busy year.”
In the past year the Gananoque Brewing Company has launched Red Fife Heritage Wheat Ale, Joel Stone Wheat, Valour Rye Beer and now Remarkable Light Beer -- alongside the company’s regular products, Naughty Otter Lager and Train Wreck Strong Ale.
“70% of our beer is sold in Toronto,” Davis said, “and we are still brewing in Niagara Falls and Campbellford. But we are trying to source more of our ingredients from the Gananoque, which gives our beers a distinctive taste and also an interesting story. We are promoting Gan all the time when we are selling beer.”
The company’s plans for the Bell Tower brewery site have been delayed pending an injection of capital. Davis is considering options to restructure the company to widen the ownership so that money can be raised to build the brewery and acquire equipment. Interior demolition at the Bell Tower site is progressing, exposing the timber frame construction of the roof and the operating bell!
“Every week I am approached by people in Gan and Kingston and Toronto who are interested in investing in the company to help get it to the next level,” said Davis. “We have a strong base of support and people want us to be successful. We are looking at various options going forward.”
On May 24th from 3-5 pm the company will open the Bell Tower site for a “sneak peek” at the remarkable interior. Refreshments will be served at the Socialist Pig restaurant and Davis will make a presentation at 4:15. The public is welcome.
